Product Manager & Application Engineer

Komatsu is the 2nd largest worldwide manufacturer of construction, mining  and utility equipment, and also delivers forest machines and logistics.

Product Manager & Application Engineer

Is active in product planning, product marketing, application engineering and training activities for the allocated products.

The role involves implementing and assisting product marketing actions for the assigned product group and for sales supporting technical advice / information to Distributors, other internal departments and Komatsu Ltd. development centre. This includes productivity calculations and fleet recommendations for midsized quarries (0,5 – 10 Mta).

Is the point of contact for DB’s in order to clarify pre-sales related questions for correct machine size and the specification of the machine.

Is also able to recommend attachments for the assigned product group depending on the needs of the customer. This type of information is often required to quote the right machine or close the deal.

Is supporting the creation and development of product trainings with self-prepared material towards the DB’s and is able to understand and show product differences versus competitor models and formulate benefits for the final customer and advice the sales force how to promote these benefits. 

Is gathering market requirements and information over the KEISA market (EU + North African) to support design change requests, which need to be considered to increase the market acceptance.


Product Planning & Product Marketing (55%)

  • Monitor the market trends and customer needs; propose and follow-up the future  developments in the market for existing and possible new product group
    • by collecting and providing market info (incl. pricing) for new product development
    • by investigating competition machines and participate in competition comparison activities.
    • by supporting and participating of survey activities 
    • by actively participating in Global/Strategic Meetings (typically held in Japan)
    • by continuous communication with global colleagues (JPN/US/Aus)
  • Activate Parts/Service preparation of new products by communicating KEPO/service
  • Follow and advise machine modifications based on technical information from engineering department
  • Follow-up QA issues & product improvements by attending QA meetings
    Creation and follow-up of Special Feature Requests (SFR)Develop product material in cooperation with material creation team; organize marketing communication,
  • brochures, marketing news, market introduction announcements.
  • Implement new product launching.
    • Integrate new product/model promotion for marketing actions and activities.
    • Propose product promotion activities in line with company policy. (advertising, press releases, demo’s, etc.)
  • Visit customers together with DB to provide expertise and support to DB’s / Dealers
  • Provide high level pre-sales advice to DB and customers
  • Support and organize demo activities at the site

Distributor & customer training (15%)

  • Develop training materials; plan and execute product training for Distributors 

Create operator training material and assist operator trainings (when possible)

Application Engineering (30%)

  • Identifies customers purchasing requirements and technical specifications (fleet recommendation with IT tool) + calculates / provides proposal with several scenario’s with large machines
  • Participates in operation improvement activities (so called CI activities) such as improvements of quarry, mine operation etc. to create strong business relations future sales possibility
  • Coaches and assists less experienced colleagues, DB sales engineers so that they can offer application engineering approach to customers.




Your profile

  • 3 Years’ experience in construction machinery or related business, engineer or industrial master of construction machinery. 
  • Analytical, structured, creative, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good presentation and training skills
  • Excellent excel and Powerpoint skills
  • Ability to operate construction machinery in order to evaluate operational aspects
  • English + one other major European language
  • Car license
  • Willing to travel (by plane)
