Factory Tour for apprentices
Komatsu invited two school classes from the vocational school BBS11 to factory tours on January 11th and 18th. The in total 40 pupils are all apprentices learning the profession of a business management assisstent. Both groups started with a presentation about Komatsu and the local production side. During then following factory tour, the groups learned more about the construction machines, their production and manufacturing process as well as several other Komatsu related topics. Afterwards, the visitors had time for questions about Komatsu.
Factory Tour for students and „Technicians“
Komatsu invited two different groups to individual factory tours in February. A group of 20 students anda school class of “Technicians” course visited the factory grounds. Both groups started with a presentation about Komatsu and the local production side. During the then following factory tour, the groups learned more about the construction machines, their production and manufacturing process as well as several other Komatsu related topics. Afterwards, the visitors had time for questions about Komatsu. Both factory tours have been a great success since on the same day, two visitors applied for an internship at Komatsu.
KG welcomed two new interns who will work at Finance and the Procurement department. During that time, they will work on projects and support the day-to-day work of our employees. The internships are mostly enclosed to their studies which they will continue after their internship. One of the interns uses the time at Komatsu to write his Bachelor Thesis about an internal topic of the Production Planning department.
Two industrial management assistant apprentices from KGC started a four weeks exchange to KGM in the mid of February 2019. One of them joined the HR department, the other one works in the Parts department. Both of them are in the second year of their apprenticeship. The aim of the apprenticeship exchange is to get to know the sister plant as well as to build a network and receive insights into other departments.
External recruiting activities – Beruf & Bildung fair // „Speeddating“
KG participated at the local job fair „Beruf & Bildung“ for pupils and students at the event location HCC in Hannover on the 22th and the 23th of February. The aim of the fair was to set up a direct contact to the target group of pupils and students as well as to promote the apprenticeship at KGC. Technical as well as business apprentices supported KGC during the fair. The KGC-team had plenty of good conversations with potential apprentices and interns. Also, KG participated at a set up „Speeddating“ by the local chamber of commerce for young apprentices in Düsseldorf.
School visit for pupils with handicaps in learning and behavior:
An HR employee and a business apprentice visited a school for pupils with severe social back-grounds on the 27th of February 2019. In a conversation the school class was informed about future job opportunities, the importance of school as well as the dreams of the students.
The Ideenexpo is a trade fair for children and teenagers to get to know different professions in a playful environment. More than hundred exhibitors developed interactive stations on which the children can try out new techniques like 3D-printing or Virtual Reality. Komatsu also participated at the 9-day fair at the fair ground in Hannover and offered three exciting interactive stations: Experi-encing the electronics of a PC8000-modell, manufacturing a miniature wheel loader as well as driv-ing a Komatsu-excavator in a virtual game. The fair was supported by apprentices from KGM and KGC as well as their apprenticeship trainers. The fair was a great success: More than 1000 children manufactured a miniature Komatsu wheel loader model and even more experienced the other two activities (15th of June – 23th of June).
