ICT System Engineer

System Engineers implement, support, maintain, and manage a broad range of ICT (technical) services (including a.o. compute, storage, networking) as well as a broad range of technologies/solutions supporting the (digital) workplace (including a.o. information security, personal productivity & collaboration). System Engineers provide advanced technical support for these services/tools, ensure they are properly maintained, upgraded, patched and adhere to the governing requirements regarding (information)security, compliance and (disaster)recovery.

Other duties include scripting or (light) programming, project management for infrastructure-related projects, supervising and/or training ICT support engineers & analysts and acting as second line support for the infrastructure stack.

Areas of responsibility

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and (systems) software problems. Create and maintain relevant records/procedures and update maintenance and repair records.
  • Monitor the performance records and logs of computer systems and networks, plan and coordinate access and use and determine if/where changes need to be made in the future.
  • Perform start-up, shutdown and (disaster) recovery procedures and maintain relevant control records/procedures.
  • Setup, configure and test systems and network hardware and software, create and maintain the relevant records and procedures.
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware and/or software requirements related to such changes.
  • Ensure technologies and systems are setup/maintained/monitored in line with the governing (information) security/compliance and (disaster) recovery requirements.
  • Maintain the inventory of systems (hardware, software) a.o. network and systems map
  • Provide technical guidance to ICT Support engineers & analysts
  • Ensure coverage of hardware and (operating) systems software by maintenance contracts in line with EU ICT policies and operational requirements
  • Gather data pertaining to (customer/user) needs and use the information to identify, predict, interpret and evaluate system and network requirements
  • Research new technology and implement it or guide its implementation through 3rd parties.
  • Organize, plan and prioritize (infrastructure related) work for “business projects”


  • Professional bachelor in information technology or equivalent knowledge through experience.
  • Perfect mastering of the local language at the place of employment and/or English (fluent in speaking, reading and writing). English is a “must”.
  • Estimation of minimal experience needed: 3 years in a similar role
  • Knowledge and general understanding of Azure and the offered services
  • Knowledge of VMware and general understanding of virtual machines and network
  • Knowledge about Microsoft Active Directory
  • Knowledge about Microsoft Windows Server
