Construction machinery training in the 21st century - Virtual reality as a training tool at Komatsu

Komatsu is setting a new standard in driver training. With the latest simulator technology, here for a 30-tonne class hydraulic excavator, it is now possible to operate a focused training program that saves resources. Simulator technology has been used for more than 20 years in the large machinery sector for dump trucks and wheel loaders and has now been developed for standard-size machines.

A combination of the latest virtual reality technology, a realistic environment and a wide range of training modules offer the driver a broad spectrum of training options without having to get into the machine.

The training modules are designed to help the training participant efficiently learn, practice and assimilate the work processes. The equipment includes VR goggles and joysticks and simulates the entire cab and work environment, bringing the training program very close to reality. Another huge advantage of the system is minimized cost. No real machines are used, so there is no wear or fuel consumption.

The system is especially suitable for beginners, because it introduces the driver to the machine’s functions and processes at the construction site, step by step and risk-free. Try out the simulator at Steinexpo from August 30 to September 2, at  Komatsu’s booth B4.

Komatsu machines demonstrated live at Steinexpo

Roaring engines, dust and a whole lot of basalt. This is the kind of job Komatsu quarrying machines are great at. The new Komatsu PC700LC-11 hydraulic excavator will attract crowds at Steinexpo 2017. With a new cab, lower fuel consumption and plenty of power, it can move rocks and large masses of earth. The loading will be handled by the new Komatsu WA600-8 wheel loader, which is particularly impressive with good traction, comfort and reliability. For backloading, the new Komatsu HM300-5 and HD605-8 dump trucks will be showcased. With optimal off-road capacity, small turning radiuses and easy operation, the two dump trucks can reliably move all types of materials. Thanks to our many years of experience and comprehensive expertise, Komatsu extraction machines easily master the tough demands of mining and quarrying. Their reliability and high performance maximize productivity and efficency. KOMTRAX provides the latest information technology to keep constant track of the fleet, minimize maintenance cost, and increase profitability.

Komatsu puts on expert seminars for users at Steinexpo

Specialists from Komatsu will provide information on the technical potential of using operating data, along with future machine developments in the stone and quarry industry, total cost of ownership, cost reduction and Industry 4.0. They will field questions and be available for an intensive exchange of information. The focus will be on increasing efficiency of use, productivity, recognizing potential, and future development of machines in the quarry industry.

Built-in payload meters in Komatsu machines

At Steinexpo, from August 30 to September 2, Komatsu will also be showing payload meters built into HD605-8 dump trucks and WA600-8 wheel loaders. Komatsu has specially integrated a payload meter into these two machines. For example, in the WA600-8 wheel loader, the payload meter registers the following: current load in the bucket, total quantity loaded in this cycle, remaining load quantity necessary for this cycle. This is especially helpful when loading trucks that do not have load weighing devices. Moreover, five different materials can be stored and displayed.

The HD605-8 dump truck has two load status displays in the form of “traffic lights” visible to the driver of the loading machine. The signal shows the current loading status of the dump body. Even the dump truck driver sees the dump body's loading status in real time on the display in the driver cab. The scales are precise to ± 1% after calibration. Zero-tolerance calibration is not possible on these scales.

Komatsu’s PC390HRD-11 demolition excavator with high-reach equipment premiers at Steinexpo

The new Komatsu 50-tonne class demolition excavator with high-reach equipment for up to 26 m makes its German debut at Steinexpo. This machine is versatile and revolutionary, and it can replace several other machines in the demolition process.Komatsu invites customers to get to know the machine at Steinexpo, and Komatsu specialists will gladly be available for discussion. Moreover, at 1:30 p.m. every day during the trade show, from August 30 to September 2, a brief talk on demolition machines will be given at Komatsu’s exhibition booth. Please register at your dealer or right at the Komatsu booth at the show.

Komatsu has all machines for every work process in the quarry industry

From the ground up: Komatsu has the right machine for every task: Komatsu’s live demos at Steinexpo include the WA600-8 wheel loader, the HD605-8 and HM300-5 dump trucks and the PC700LC-11 large excavator. However, there is still one more — a small, nimble work horse for a wide range of applications. At Steinexpo, we will be showing the WA80M-7 compact wheel loader, which does useful work everywhere using various attachment equipment. For backloading, there is the very special WA500-8 wheel loader with an extraordinary combination of stability, breakout force and traction force that make it the right machine for any kind of material transport, handling and loading application.

For clearing and closing the terrain, the D65PXi-18 crawler dozer is in its element. With various available blade designs and a rear ripper, the machine can do the work ecologically and with plenty of power. Equipped with intelligent machine control, the machine also offers the advantage of automated coarse and fine levelling. Here the Komatsu specialists at Steinexpo will be glad to answer your questions and show you the economic advantages of using this intelligent machine.

And last but not least, Komatsu’s team includes the HB365NLC-3 hybrid excavator. Komatsu’s hybrid system — already well known and highly regarded by customers — converts kinetic energy generated by braking and swinging into electricity. During actual use, with a lot of swing movements, it can bring fuel savings of up to 20% compared to one of Komatsu’s comparable standard models. The HD405-8 dump truck, the little brother of the rigid dump truck at the live demo, will also be displayed at the Komatsu booth, which completes the collection of models and machines.
