Komatsu Europe International presents New PW98MR-10 Midi Excavator
Published on 4/12/2016

Vilvoorde, April 2016 — Komatsu Europe International N.V will present the PW98MR-10 midi excavator at Bauma 2016. This new Komatsu tight-tail machine bridges the gap between compact and construction-sized excavators and can work in a wide variety of construction, utility and landscaping applications with improved efficiency. The PW98MR-10 features lower fuel consumption, improved operator comfort and enhanced serviceability.

With a net 48.5 kW @ 1.950 rpm (66 HP) and operating weights between 9.820 kg and 10.450 kg, the PW98MR-10 is powered by a 4-valve per cylinder Komatsu SAA4D95LE-6 engine and is EU Stage IIIB certified, with no Diesel Particulate Filter or Selective Catalytic Reduction system for low maintenance costs. An advanced electronic control system manages air-flow rate, fuel injection, combustion and exhaust after-treatment to optimize performance, reduce emissions, lower fuel consumption and provide advanced diagnostic capability.

The KOMTRAX™ technology on the PW98MR-10 sends machine operating information to a secure website with wireless technology. Data such as operating hours, fuel consumption, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. The KOMTRAX™ fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

Performance

The PW98MR-10 features improved productivity, with a higher lifting capacity and increased stability. It has a maximum digging depth of 4.305 mm and a maximum digging reach of 7.835 mm. A swing boom allows the PW98MR-10 to work in confined spaces. The operator can focus on the work in front of the machine and worry less about rear swing impact in confined areas.

Improved travel performance

Power loss is greatly reduced in the drive line and travel speeds on the PW98MR-10, among the highest on the market, are improved by up to 11 % on slopes and 14% on flat ground.

As on larger Komatsu wheeled excavators, a switch below the PPC joystick allows to select the travel direction for improved mobility on and in between jobsites. The operator can choose between three speed modes, proposed on the monitor: creep speed (max 4.5 km/h), low speed (max 10 km/h) and high speed (max 30 km/h). Productivity is increased, with less operator fatigue.

Enhanced comfort and ease of operation

A high resolution 7” LCD monitor features enhanced capabilities. It provides Eco guidance, operational records, fuel consumption history, and user info. An optional rear-view camera can give the operator a landscape view of the area directly behind the machine. Six available working modes can match the hydraulic power to the job at hand, to further increase fuel economy. A new enhanced attachment control allows up to 10 attachments settings to be stored through the monitor panel interface.

Two-way attachments can be operated in Economy Mode. A new seat base-mounted switch is available for engine shutdown. The PW98MR-10 offers a choice between twin and single tyres.

In small and tight spaces, the sliding door and a new external handle provide easy entry and exit to and from the spacious cabin. The ROPS-certified cab, specifically designed for excavators, gains strength from a reinforced box structure framework. A high back seat with fully adjustable armrests improves operator comfort. The radio, with pre-sets and an auxiliary USB input for connecting external devices, also has a Bluetooth connection.

A new adjustable steering column can be set to the operator's preferred height, and ergonomic joysticks with proportional controls were specially developed for work with a wheeled excavator: their horizontal orientation allows safe and precise operation of hydraulically-driven attachments.

The oscillating axle can instantly be locked manually by a simple touch of a button on the left joystick. In addition, the PW98MR-10 is equipped with cruise control for comfortable long distance travel.

Convenient maintenance and serviceability

To simplify maintenance, a wide opening engine hood and a new larger left side service door improve service access to key daily checks. Side-by-side radiator and oil cooler modules simplify maintenance. The rear footboard, available as standard, gives easy access to the rear bonnet, to save valuable maintenance time.

The PW98MR-10 is equipped with the exclusive Komatsu EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), which performs three main functions, displayed on the large LCD colour monitor: it continually monitors all critical systems, alerts and guides the operator should an anomaly occur, and prevents a small problem from becoming a larger service issue.

Extended replacement intervals for hydraulic oil, engine oil, and filters keep the machine up and running for increased hours on the job.
